I have a strange issue regarding Windows Update. Whenever I click on "Check for Updates", it says:
Windows could not search for new updates Error(s) found: Code 80240018
There is no online help for this code. I'm connected to the internet. I need some drivers from Windows Update for my audio card (I know they are there).
Is there any work-around this issue?
Thanks!
Daniel

I have the same Problem. Only one time a day the update works without this issue ...
Anyone who has an idea?

In the Windows update Control Panel, Click on CHANGE SETTINGS. Next click Check for Updates but lety me choose whether to download and install them.
Click OK. After Clicking OK, Windows Update will automatically scan for updates. Install any that you feel are necessary.
Hope this helps.

Try running Windows Update as administrator. You can do this by searching for Windows Update in the Start menu, right-clicking it, and choosing "Run as administrator".
I don't know why this problem happens, because Windows Update should ask for administrator privileges if it needs them, but telling Windows to run as administrator has worked for me.

I don't know if my post went through... sorry if this is a repost.
Try running Windows Updates as administrator. Click Start, search for Windows Update, right-click it, and choose "Run as administrator".
I don't know why Windows Update doesn't request for administrator privileges if it needs them to run, but this has just worked for me.

I have this same problem myself and this fixed it for me. I don't know why it doesn't ask me for administrator privileges if it needs them in the first place!
